There are presently 18 people signed up for the "Knowing God" summer study.  The potluck at Deb's house was fun for all who came.  There is still time to sign up for the study that begins on Wednesday, July 8th.

We'll start off each study with a potluck from 6-7PM, followed by the study from 7-8PM.

This Week's Happenings

Don't forget to come out to support the CenterPoint Volleyball Team on Tuesday night at Auggies.  This week, we play at 8:15PM.  With temperatures predicted in the 90's, playing a later game is a gift from God!!

Put this Wednesday, June 24th, on your calendar for the first of many CenterPoint summer potlucks.  The fun starts at 6PM at Deb Heichel's house (859 207th Street, Dresser, WI).  Bring a dish to pass (casserole, salad, dessert) and a lawn chair.  There will also be an opportunity to sign up for the study that will be starting up on Wednesday, July 8th.

Email Julie (julie@centerpointstcroix.com) for specific directions to Deb's house.

Summer Study Opportunities

We are in the process of organizing summer studies for anyone who would like to participate.
Dick will be leading a men's study on Wednesday mornings, and a mixed study (men & women) on Wednesday evenings. Both studies will be reading and studying the book Knowing God, by J.I. Packer.
The men's Wednesday morning study will meet at Sweet Peas in Dresser from 6AM - 7AM.
The mixed group Wednesday evening study will meet from 7PM - 8PM. Prior to this study, there will be a weekly potluck from 6PM - 7PM. We want to encourage spending more time getting to know one another better, and we want to encourage continuing to study God and His Word throughout the summer. If you can come to both, that would be great! However, if you are only able to come to one or the other (either the potluck or the study), please feel free to do so.

The studies will begin on Wednesday, July 8th.

As a kind of "kick-off, Deb Heichel will be hosting a potluck at her home from 6PM - 8PM NEXT Wednesday, June 24th. There will be a sign-up sheet available this Sunday for the potluck, and for the study. At the potluck on the 24th, we will collect the money for the book and workbook (approximately $16). If you are unable to attend the potluck, please let Julie or Dick know if you would like to participate to ensure that we order enough books.
Deb's address is: 859 207th Street, Dresser, WI 54009. You can call Deb at 715/294-2597 for directions (or go to Google Maps and type in her address for a map).
We are hoping to arrange babysitting for the little children at our first study on July 8th. More information will be communicated as the plan unfolds.
We're looking forward to strengthening our relationships with one another AND to having great discussions about knowing God!

Everyone is invited to come to Augies to support the team.  It's a great time of fellowship and getting to know one another, and others, better!

Great God Series

We are currently going through a series of messages on the attributes of God. This is part of a larger series covering CenterPoint's core convictions. As a church, we have five core convictions that spell out the acrostic G.R.A.C.E. The first of these is Great God. In his book, Knowing God, J. I. Packer states that the evangelical church is following a trend of our age which “spawns great thoughts of man and leaves room for only small thoughts of God.” As we spend time in our Bibles we see that this is clearly a reversal of Biblical teaching. God’s word teaches us that God is great and that we are not. In fact, mankind is dependent on God for everything, and in everything should give thanks. This summer, as we study the Biblical foundations of our core convictions, we will be spending an extended amount of time studying God.

In 2 Timothy, Paul says to Timothy, “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” Here, Paul is saying that as we study the Bible we become wise for salvation. I think this means that first we come to an accurate understanding of how we get right with God and then how we grow in our relationship with God. Surely, an accurate understanding of who God is, and then living in accordance with this understanding, is one of the essential ways that we grow “wise for salvation.”

We started this series by looking at the providence of God. This teaches that God so governs and rules His creation that no event occurs apart from His guiding hand. A key verse in understanding the providence of God is Matthew 10:29 which says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.”

The second message dealt with the kindness and severity of God. The key verse for this study was Romans 11:22 which states, “Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.”

This week we will be studying the aseity of God. This teaches that God did not create the world or mankind because of any need, but rather out of the overflowing greatness of His glory.

If you live in the St Croix Valley, we would like to invite you to join us in the study of our great God. We believe that as we get to know God better our lives will be greatly enriched.
